≪意味・使い方≫
Xをものともせず(に)
- Xに負けないで ＜undeterred by X＞
- 「大変な状況Xに負けないで頑張っている」と言いたいときに使う
- ．「Xに負けないで頑張ってるなあ」という感想を客観的に述べる表現なので、話者自信には使わない
- 「に」はあってもなくてもいい。省略して使うことも多くある
１．個人的なことに使う傾向が強いので、以下のような主語が組織となると使いにくくなる。しかし、集団を表す言葉、「高校生」や「障碍者」のような言葉であれば問題ない。
例：△ その会社は不景気をものともせずに売り上げを伸ばした。
例文
悪天候をものともせずに試合で結果を出した。 (He achieved results in the match, undeterred by the adverse weather conditions.)
障害をものともせず明るく前向きに生きていく。 (He will live brightly and positively, undeterred by obstacles.)
ひしめく観光客をものともせずに彼は駆けていった。 (He dashed through the crowded tourists, undeterred.)
頭上から容赦なく照り付ける太陽の光をものともせず、ひまわりが咲き乱れている。 (Sunflowers bloom profusely, undeterred by the merciless sunlight beating down from above.)
気温の変化をものともせず子ども達は外で元気に遊んでいる。 (Children play energetically outside, unaffected by changes in temperature.)
暑さをものともせず子ども達に手を振る着ぐるみのお兄さんに感服した。 (I admired the mascot waving to the children, undeterred by the heat.)
彼はかかる困難をものともせずに邁進した。 (He pressed on undeterred by the difficulties.)
その悪評をものともせず彼女は女優のトップにのぼりつめた。 (She climbed to the top of the actress world, undeterred by the bad reputation.)
人混みをものともせず彼は限定品に手を伸ばした。 (He reached for the limited edition item, undeterred by the crowd.)
襲い掛かってくる敵をものともせず戦う姿はまさに英雄であった。 (His fighting spirit against attacking enemies, undeterred, was truly heroic.)
