用法

≪意味・使い方≫
　Xなくは/もない／ないことは/もない／ないでもない／ないものでもない。

全くXない、ということではない。（＝少しならXだ）　＜somewhat X＞
「ないでもない」「ないものでもない」は動詞にのみ接続する
どれも意味はほぼ同じで、「なくはない」「ないことはない」「ないでもない」「ないものでもない」の順で硬さが上がっていく。「なくはない」はよく会話でも見られるが、「ないものでもない」は硬い文章でしか見られない。なお、「は」と「も」の違いはない。

例文

新宿まで一人で行けなくはないが、一人だと不安だ。 (I can go to Shinjuku alone, but I feel somewhat uneasy.)

政策には反対の声が上がる一方で、歓迎する声もなくはない。 (While there are opposing voices on the policy, there are not without voices of welcome.)

こちらの主張が理解されていない可能性もなくはない。 (There is a possibility that our argument may not be fully understood.)

友達の合格、嬉しくなくもないけど…。 (I’m not unhappy about my friend’s success, but…)

順風満帆な人もいて、羨む気持ちもなくはない。 (Some people are doing well, and I can’t help but envy them.)

キャンセルする手もなくはないけど、キャンセルなんて面倒だからそのままいくことにする。 (I could cancel, but canceling is such a hassle, so I’ll just go as planned.)

彼の提案は実行可能だと言えないこともないが、多くの課題がある。 (His proposal may not be unworkable, but there are many challenges.)

彼の言葉の一部は信じられないことはないが、全てが真実とも言えない。 (Some of his words may not be unbelievable, but not everything is the truth.)

彼女の計画は未完成ではあるが、成功する可能性もないこともない。 (Her plan is unfinished, but it’s not impossible for it to succeed.)

周りがみんな結婚していって、私一人取り残されてる感じがないでもない。 (I feel like I’m the only one left behind as everyone around me is getting married.)

彼の顔、見覚えがないでもない。 (I can’t say I don’t recognize his face.)

馬鹿らしいという気持ちもないでもない。 (I can’t say it’s not ridiculous.)

気になるところがないでもないが、最後はよかった。 (I can’t say there’s nothing to be concerned about, but in the end, it turned out well.)

そんなに欲しいと言うなら譲ってやらないでもない。 (If you want it that much, I can’t say I won’t give it to you.)

今日は登山できないものでもないが、午後から降るかもしれないからやめたほうがいい。 (We might not be unable to go mountain climbing today, but it might be better to cancel because it might rain in the afternoon.)

そのプロジェクトは成功の保証がないものでもないが、良い方向に進んでいる。 (The project is not without the guarantee of success, but it’s heading in a positive direction.)

昔の極貧時代に比べれば、今の状況は我慢できないものでもない。 (Compared to the extreme poverty in the past, the current situation is not unbearable.)
